Purchasing a new server - Dual CPU choice

    I'm in the progress of getting a new box for my site www.pbportal.de (http://www.pbportal.de)

    I have good experiences and measurements using dual xeons. I could get xeons again, but also have an offering for dual core opterons.

    which cpu would be better for a vb server?

    - dual xeon 3.4 ghz
    - dual opteron 2212 dual core 2.0 ghz

    I also have an offer to take

    - dual xeon woodcrest 5130

    don't know how they would compare, but they are a little more expensive.

  • yes, the rest of the system will probably be the same no matter which cpu.

  • Go with the Opteron or Woodcrest system. Stay away from the older Xeon chips unless the server is quite a bit cheaper or has something special to offer.

    Of course, all of that is under the assumption that the remainder of the system specs are the same.
