  • Why do most Christians pick and choose which morals from the bible they wish to obied by? I often hear Christians complain about homosexuality and abortions, but i never hear them say people who work on the sabbath should be put to death. The bible also says its ok to sell your daughter into slavery and disobedient children should be stoned to death. How is that moral?

  • Because they are ALL hypocrites. Why do you think the world refers to them as hypochristians?

  • can you pinpoint where in the bible it says its okay to stone kids and sell daughters? if its in there it must be in the old testament. jesus brought the new testament.

sabbath is any day you choose. you can choose tuesday as your sabbath. you just have to choose the day and keep it holy.

you don't have to be perfect, you just have to try your best to live as jesus told us. its impossible to not sin.

  • Abortion and Homosexuality are hot political topics that's why you hear more about that.

    This part:
"The bible also says its ok to sell your daughter into slavery and disobedient children should be stoned to death"

is from the Old Testament law written to an entirely different culture and time period. We can learn from these things, but they don't apply to us in the same way they applied to the Israelite people in OT times. For instance, we can understand from that law that God takes disobedience seriously.

As to why it seems that we pick and choose... its because we are human and not perfect. We should follow Biblical morals perfectly, but we are a sinful people in need of God's grace. None of us will be perfect till we get to Heaven.

  • Context. The Sabbath was a covenant law for the Hebrews.

Remember, the Bible is also historic. Just because an event is recorded does not mean it is a moral law.

Can you cite for me the scripture where this was actually practiced? Obviously, this put the fear in to kids to obey their parents.

I can also cite for you the scriptures where this was NOT practiced, such as the sons of Eli, and meant nothing but misery for the parents as well as Israel.

Dr. Spock said you should never spank or discipline your children. Years later he saw that the United States was being overrun with out-of-control children--and he apologized for his advice. A little late by that time. God obviously sees the opposite tact. Scare them in to being respectful is the best for a child when he grows to be a man. As it says in the commandment, "That it might be well with you."

It was for the eternal benefit that children learn quickly and sternly to honor one's mother and father. But again, I will reiterate, that this was never found to be necessary to enforce. The law, in this case, worked.

Here is Southern California, we are being overrun with gang warfare. Little children are being killed almost weekly by drive by shootings. If allowed to go without any fear consequence, the depth of evil will overflow and destroy an entire city.

Now, I don't mean to be harsh about this, but you also have a very earthly view of death as being such a horrible thing. From God's point of view, death is merely going through a door. How much death does God see in a day? Over 6,000 years? I highly doubt He boo hoos as much about it as we do. For God, its just a change of address. I am an older man, and I have see quite a bit of death of both friends and family, and it is not pleasant in the least. However, that is because I am here on earth. But God sees that moving a rebellious child out of the camp to prevent the poison of gang-thinking far better than letting them go their merry way to destruction. But as I noted above. This law was NEVER put in to practice. So obviously, this super tough love law worked for Israel.

  • Because the bible doesn't really make any sense.

  • Yep...context context context. The Sabbath is a Jewish observance, not put on gentile Christians...as were the other laws you mentioned. To be stoned one had to appear before a sanhedrin...the rabbis said that a Sanhedrin that passed out a death sentence once in 70 years was a bloody Sanhedrin

  • bless your poor confused heart. i think it's time for you to read the new testament...
