  • I just feel a little guilt when my friends tell me about their problems or successes and I don't know how to reply. I usually honestly feel good or bad for them, but I can't always relate. Should I keep asking them questions about it? or should I change the subject? or what?

  • Just say,

"I'm sorry to hear that" when they tell you their woes and,

"That's great" when they tell you their joys.

The important thing is that you listened to them, and they are happy that they could share with you. You're not constrained to put on any emotional show, just a little sympathy. Allow a little time to let them talk about their matter, and that's probably all they wanted.

  • just listen to them, ask some questions, but none too intrusive or anything, just normal quesrions.

  • just tell them how your feeling and that you can't relate to what they're telling you. if they're your friends then it should be easy to tell them the truth.
