  • Hopefully I'm not repeating myself...

    Basic
I have noticed that in the latest T3CH builds does not save network locations when "editing sources" like video and music. The file, sources/xml in USERDATA, storing these resources is not saved. Therefore I can't access external content from my "main" Xbox without manually adding them again after every reboot.

I have to add those devices manually again and again though the GUI in order to access my external content.

Please also note that from my experience this also applies to the XBMC Win32 Atlantis release .

    My setup:
I have 2 additional Xboxes, a Linux RAID system (NAS) and a Dreambox 600pvr. I especially want to add the network location to the F://videos and G://videos partitions on those additional xboxes so I can view the content from my "Main" Xbox.

All the devices are wired and hooked up to a Linksys router. All having Static IP

    The Problem
Adding the resources works fine UNTIL I reboot my "Main" Xbox. Then only content on the local F and G partition and the NAS are showing up on screen. All my other setting/resources are gone... so I have to manually add the other devices through XBMC GUI again.

    Conclusion
There seams to be a limitation using the XBMC GUI and adding more than 3 resources.

    Solution
No idea. I'm not a developer

    Question
Am I the only one experiencing this problem cause I never had this problem before using older builds?

    Cheers /fArGo

P.s. I've asked this question before but was asked to move this to a separate thread.

  • There's a limit to adding 3 paths in the same source, not on the number of sources.

  • yes... the gui only allows adding three paths to a source, thus making it a multipath source. this is same as the following in sources.xml:

    foo
    e:videos
    f:videos
    g:videos

i think the only reason for the limit is so that the gui isnt too cluttered. you'll notice there's three slots. the dialog just doesnt support anymore.

but i have no idea what happens if you try to edit a manual source with more than three paths in it.

  • oh now I understand. Is there a workaround and is there a particular reason for having a limit?

    Many Thanks

  • The workaround is doing it manually in sources.xml. And no, no sane reason that I can see for it - will see why + remove it if it's unnecessary.

It would be useful if you could post a bug report on trac. That way I won't forget :)

    Cheers,
    Jonathan

  • when was this implemented I have more than 3 paths per sources that I added using the gui
    my films source is

    FILM
    D:filmold gitsAVI
    E:filmAVI
    N:film
    M:film

plus one more on the xbox HD making 5 paths I only set up on a new profile two months ago

  • To be absolutley sure, does this only affect sources in multipaths, or sources in general?
(Could be that the dev that implemented it at the time decided it was not wise to have more than three sources per multipath?
Given the issues that have been discovered with it in the past?)

    From ticket:
"Adding manual sources sources.xml file works very randomly and only in a few particular cases. This "trick" is also not very well documented."

This "trick" was the only thing XBMC users had for years, so it's if anything much better documented than the GUI. What do you suggest as an improvent?

  • oh. apologies. i always thought it was fixed to three slots as thats how the dialog appears.

  • Have you tried this:

Add the devices maualy to the "sources.xml" with a text-editor. And store it via ftp in the UserData folder.

    greez

  • Actually, this is false. It allows as many as you like.

The problem was the user was having FTP shares as part of the multipath which, on boot, were disabled. I've switched all such disabling off.

sorry I didn't see your post forget all of the above

  • I had the same issue, I used my sources.xml from the last build of T3CH.

  • jbob you probably have an old version of sources.xml that works. My new one does not...
I'm probably gonna downgrade until this matter is solved. Could you post your so I could have a look at it.

    Cheers

  • Ticket submitted ;)

  • doh! i just realized what this was and it's my fault from years ago. the original virtualpath and multipath code only allowed local and samba (and maybe xbms?) shares to be included on load. the gui didnt have any restrictions at all. you could add them and they would work until you restarted xbmc.
