New to the board. Been reading alot over the last month. Has there been any research, articles as to an estimate of when the spreading of the bird flu will occur. I am curious about when we will start to see it in the states and in Canada. I'm in Canada and the migratory birds will be starting to return very soon. Is it thought that the spring could be when this starts to spread. I did read a bit about the 1918 pandemic and that pandemic really starting spreading in the fall.
Sorry if the answer is somewhere in the mass of information on the forum. There is so so much to read and try to educate myself on.
Another resource would be to scout around in your neighborhood- and connect with Public Health/ Emergency Management offices- or the equivalent. There may be sites available to help you feel more connected to the current information in your area. Also, a way of finding out what others in your area are doing to prep.
Well guess only thing I can do is just prepare. Hopefully this is later in the year not earlier. I just don't have the money right now. Because we are in Canada we are going to have some larger purchases like a generator. We have very very cold winters. So I have started with the food prep right now.

Nobody knows the answer. However, migratory birds are not the only potential source for North America. It could arrive via imported live birds, poultry products, or mammals.

As Daisy said, that's the Billion Dollar question. Any answer you get is going to be speculation (some more qualified than others, of course ;)).
My advice would be to prepare to the best of your ability as if a pandemic will start this month. If it doesn't start, then prepare a little more next month, and so on...

There are a number of discussions about how to prep inexpensively. Starting with food preps is a smart idea. Also consider your needs carefully before you make large purchases such as a generator. You will also need fuel storage capabilities as well.
