» Ice shrinks, birds migrate early in warmer Arctic
Ice shrinks, birds migrate early in warmer Arctic By Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent INSIDE LONGYEARBYEN GLACIER, Norway (Reuters) - A Norwegian glacier has shrunk on an island 1,000 km (600 miles) from the North Pole, a usually frozen fjord is ice-free and snow bunting birds have migrated back early in possible signs of global warming. At the tail end of the Arctic winter, polar sea ice extends less far south than normal around the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard in what may be linked to a warming widely blamed on greenhouse gases released by burning fossil fuels. "This glacier is dying," guide Eirik Karlsen said on a visit to a tunnel through the ice left by last summer's melt water cascading through the heart of th...... - 2010-02-07
» Historical UK Local Newspaper Advertising Rates
I work for a UK-based property website. We'd like to be able to compare the monthly subscription charge to estate agents with historical newspaper advertsing rates -- so that we can say "Well, your monthly charge with us could have bought you the equivalent in newspaper advertising -- but not since 1963" or whatever. So I need an online source of UK local newspaper advertising rates going back fifty years or more, where I can find the amount paid per page. Answers that apply only to England, or even to a single area of England, would be acceptable. Answers applying only to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or parts thereof would not....... - 2010-02-07

Last night while I was at work I was listening to a song on my trusty mp3 player which in turn gave me a great idea for a photo, well more of a digital creation than a photogragh. So what I need is an image of a rainy night sky with some dramatic fork or sheet lightning(Preferably fork lightning) To add to the image I intend to create.I would shoot the lightning myself only We dont get that much over here.So If anybody would be so kind as to provide me with an image of this description it would be great. What song were you listening to, "Riders in the Storm"?:greenpbl: Sorry I don't know much, but what I can say is use a tripod, long shutter speed (at least half a minute I'd think), and just experiment with your aperture later on to get the ri...... - 2010-02-07

Mittal Steel's takeover of Arcelor has won support from the Luxembourg government, which owns 5.6% of Arcelor. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41751000/jpg/_41751696_steel203ap.jpg The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where Arcelor has its HQ, has dropped its previous opposition to the deal, and wants to own shares in the new group. Meanwhile, a group of shareholders has dropped court action to postpone an Arcelor shareholder meeting over a plan to merge with Russia's Severstal. A vote on that proposed deal will now take place on 30 June. The meeting is going ahead after shareholder group ADAM, representing minority investors in Arcelor, said it would drop its request to postpone the gathering. » Are they real people, fake bidders? who are they?
On ebay there are SO MANY bidders whose name is a letter followed by three asterisks and then another letter. for example j***h or v***k They're everywhere. Does anyone know why they do that? It's annoying and suspicious because usually they have no bidding history. These are not user names. What eBay does is it encodes the bidder's user names as j***k or something like that so that people cannot contact them to try to make a deal or something like that. It is an anonymous bidding name. Don't worry about them, they are legitimate accounts, unfortunately, unless you're the auctionholder, you can't find out anything about the accounts. Hope that cleared it up.Ebay does that to stop others from contacting the bid...... - 2010-02-07
» My car insurance is on but dont have a pink slip can i still drive in toronto?
Sure you can, however if you get pulled over you will not be able to produce evidence that the vehicle is insured, which means you can be ticketed. It's best to wait until you get it before driving. Why weren't you given one when you applied for the insurance? You would have to call your insurance and stand for hours while pulled over by a cop. Get the paper then drive. You shouldn't. Call your insurance company and they will fax or email you a temporary pink slip that you can print off, and send the real one in the mail....... - 2010-02-07
» Best Northern California Market for an Academic Tutoring Business
I'm planning on starting a tutoring business in Northern California in the fall, but I'm not sure exactly where to do it. Here's what I'm looking for: *A place with lots of KIDS. I intend to focus my services primarily on the 7th-12th grade homework & test prep market, so I'm looking for a rapidly expanding (likely suburban) area with lots of families that have serious interest in the education of their adolescent- and teen-age students. *A place where parents can afford to pay $30-$50/hr for tutoring - most likely an upper-middle class concentration. *A place without a pre-existing hypercompetitive tutoring market. A few examples of such markets (it seems to me) include San Francisco, Marin County, ...... - 2010-02-07

i had a thought... i'm going to italy next semester. when i get on the plane, they'll use some kind of x-ray or something to scan my stuff. anyone know if this type of scan would damage a digital camera? i know it's not good to point a digital camera at the sun, so could a penetrating scan be damaging also?I don't know about digital camera, but if you are carrying films, DON'T let it pass thru those x-rays.The swear the x-ray won't hurt digital. It'll hurt your film though. They will want to x-ray it anyways unless it's fast film. I put labels on all of my film that says: Lab - Push to 1600. That makes sure that they hand check them. » Canon 450D/ Rebel xti flash problem?
[my in built flash] it doesn't flash very well. when i'm taking pictures for a church indoor event, especially when i need to take quick multiple action shots, the flash would have a "busy" sign on the lcd and i have to wait a few seconds to be able to shoot again, which frustrates me in missing out crucial shots of the event. a pro photog at the shop told me i have to use a high iso so i wont be using the battery so much, so i've tried with iso 800, but the inbuilt flash also takes so long to recover. is this common for this canon model? my olympus E-500 has NEVER had any flash problems. it's fast for any action and has never even had to go into any servicing aside from changing of the shutter button. --------...... - 2010-02-07

In the very beginning, all I see is jagged black lines, flames, ugly black particles in the air! My sound card is excellent, so it narrows it down to these three: Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Graphics Card: Radeon X600 RAM Space: 1 GB Please help me! I finally have the game and now I don't get to play it! Best answer will be awarded! When it comes to games, its your GPU under stress. Your card is too weak for this game and you need to upgrade. Consider getting a PCI-E mobo for about 100-200 and picking up a 8800GT/HD 4850 for about 100 bucks. This graphics card will run the game fine on max. First off, I'd just like to say that i love the vBulletin set up. I currently run a website for a video game called MapleStory called Maple-News. We currently use an IPBFree forum. It's not exactly what I call great for us. Though you can customize things, it's really hard to get things to work, like the shout box for example. You have to refresh the page to view new shouts. I post on a few vBulletin forums and I really like the set up and the ability to ad blogs, etc. The only issue I have is it's really expensive, cheaper compared to Invision Boards though. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to earn money or something to be able to purchase a vBulletin board. My site is using all free sources, even a domain. Looking through the binary of the rom it seems that it is somehow possible to make the unit re-create this file (test menu).. vendor wants to charge $$$$ forcing us to take out a support contract.. anyone know how to re-create this file..Ive upped this to $200.. » Among Chrysler, GM, and Ford, who is in the most trouble?
Just curious. I would assume it's Chrysler as they put absolutely no effort into their products whatsoever. They always just use the exact same engines, the exact same interiors, and share the platforms around the company. Ford sells well overseas, and GM sells well here along with ford. So, who is in the worst trouble? (Most debt?) And, while we're at it, do you think they are salvageable? They don't need a handout that's for sure. Chrysler is going down first and I hope we never hear anything else about them. GM and Ford are going to be fine. I do find it funny that they make $74 an hour. I know most of us aren't even close to that!! Restructuring and out with UAW! I would have to agree with Chrysler, a...... - 2010-02-07
» Tissue or Microfiber
I have always been a big proponent of using wet lens tissue to clean my lenses you know 1 wet one to clean then 1 dry one immediately to dry but now it seems lots of people are trying to push microfiber cloths. My question is this what does everyone use. Also is it good to use a microfiber cloth on a good coated lens (like my 70-200 2.8) it seems all the rubbing it would take to get the stray fingerprint or piece of crud off that lens might damage it.I use protective filters so I don't clean lenses often at all. If one gets dirty I try not to touch it. Blowing air would be my first choice. A brush would be the second choice. If I have to use a cleaning solution, either tissue or microfiber cloth will work. The cloth cleans better but...... - 2010-02-07

Excuse my ignorance if an option such as this is easy to find, but so far I have not had much luck. Is there a way (without modification) to have a certain forum automatically subscribe a user to its thread, when the new user creates one? To clarify, I have a thread on my forum that deals with applications. The application threads are made by the users of the forum, however, I would like it so that as soon as the users' threads are made, they are automatically set up to receive e-mail notifications from their particular thread. I don't want this process to apply to the website as a whole, merely this particular forum and thread. Is this possible? » Inverse Kinematics Implementation (C/C++)
I'm looking for some robust C/C++ source code for finding an inverse kinematics solution based on an arbitrary skeleton, with results for each bone in Euler angles (roll, pitch, yaw). By "robust," I mean that I'm not looking for a trivial iterative solution such as is found here: http://www.darwin3d.com/gdm1998.htm . I'm looking for a solution that returns an "optimal" solution, and takes into account various joint parameters, such as angle limits, resistance to bending, etc.. I.e., I'm looking for an implementation that would useful for real-world animation. » Questions about file/folder naming scheme and movieposterdb.
Hi, I have two quick questions about the video library and the scaper: a) The wiki states I should name my movies correctly with the year tag at the end. Now there is an option in xbmc to use folder names instead of file names, when this is checked is the folder name always used before the file name when scanning ? I have my folders setup like this: smbshare:/movies/Some Film (2007)/strangesceneconvention_filename.avi If I check the option to use folder names, is it sufficient to rename the folders correctly, or should I rename the file names also ? b) When updating to the latest t3ch release, I also reorganized my server holding my files and rescanned my whole movie collection. I have transformed my 150 litre 40 gal African cichlid community tank into a roomy tank for two angelfish. My question is my filter. They seem fine now but i only got them today. I know my filter wasn't strong enough for my old fish but is it 'too' strong for my new fish? Thanks Your filter sounds perfect for your size tank and the two angelfish. My teacher says its micro tears in your muscles, but the book says it's lactic acid. So which is it?They're both correct. Lactic acid buildup accounts for soreness lasting around a day or so. Most textbooks don't specify any length of time that the soreness lasts due to lactic acid. Recent research indicates that persistent soreness is due to small tears in muscle fibers. Hi, Does anybody know about making a good tomato sauce? I just cut up a bunch of fresh tomatoes and put them on a low boil. It looks like they're simmering into sauce but should I add anything? I'm planning to add herbs but is there something else I should do?If you don't add herbs you then can add them or not when you use the sauce to cook with. Boil them and then mash them. If you want a smooth sauce you might want to strain it. A food processor may work too. Lumpy sauce will be if you just mash them while you cook them. » CDC Checklist for Hospitals
Hospital Pandemic Influenza Planning Checklist (PDF - 2.03 MB) (http://www.pandemicflu.gov/plan/healthcare/hospitalchecklist.pdf) Planning for pandemic influenza is critical for ensuring a sustainable healthcare response. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with input from other Federal partners, have developed this checklist to help hospitals assess and improve their preparedness for responding to pandemic influenza. Because of differences among hospitals (e.g., characteristics of the patient population, size of the hospital/community, scope of services), each hospital will need to adapt this checklist to meet its unique needs and circumstances. 1 (http://www.pandemicflu.gov/plan/healthcare/hospitalchecklist.html#f1) T...... - 2010-02-07

» Taking Pictures in Low Light
Hi all, I was wondering if I can draw from the experience of those more experienced than myself (which is ... pretty much everyone?) I was covering a fairly dynamic event indoors in low light and I was (naturally) forced to use flash. I am not very fond of flashes, so I try to use as little as possible. I only use fill flash rather than overwhelm the ambient. I use my flash on-camera, because I simply can't get to it fast enough otherwise. Even when I try to bounce off walls, ceiling AND use a diffuser to help me with it, I notice that I occasionally blow-off highlights, particularly on faces of people. I shoot in shutter priority with shutter set to the slowest speed I can handhold (1/20 with IS on). I can, of course, shoot with ...... - 2010-02-07
» I find I have trouble thinking of things to say when I talk to people... ?
I recently moved and want to build relationships with new people. However I find I struggle thinking about things to say when I introduce myself to new people. For example, when I meat a new person, after breaking the ice, I find I "get stuck" in trying to find topics to talk about. I do ask questions but obviously topics shouldn't be just limited to probing people to death. first off all don't be nervous.think what are going to say next.and to speak slow so that the another person who is listening to u can understand what are u talkin aboutI plan my conversations before hand. If i end up not using it, then great, but its good back up. Pick interesting topics out of the news, adn talk about that. Best way to make friends? TA...... - 2010-02-07
» Canon 70-200 L IS - 1:2.8 vs.1:4
Hi everyone. I now the 70-200 1:4 L IS isn't out yet, but it will be coming out soon. I am interested in buying a good 70-200 lens, but wanted to get everyone's impression on the differences. I was in a store yesteday and compared the 1:2.8 IS vs the regular 1:4 with the assumption that the new IS version of the 1:4 won't be that much bigger or heavier. One thing that was immediately clear is that the 2.8 weighs almost twice as much, if not more. It must change the use of that lens. The heavier 2.8 actually comes with a nifty tri-pod collar that allows a quick rotation between landscape and portrait orientation. My concern is that if I'm dependant on a monopod I will end up getting pretty limited use out of the lens. What would my usa...... - 2010-02-07

» US Soccer Manager beta out
US Soccer Manager beta is now out again. The game features the MLS, but now you can play in the Premiership. A-League and D3 Pro Leagues are in the game but you need the password (only for beta testers). Other password-accessible features include multiple seasons and save/load. The game was built around a side-project match engine that I built and the match engine is the number one part of the game. The future of the game will include more leagues, more statistics, and the game will live up to its name and the USA will be the 'primary' league instead of England. Most importantly, though, it is under the tactical scrutiny of a soccer coach. Pre-game and halftime team talks will be based around real pre-game and halftime team talks f...... - 2010-02-07

I just feel a little guilt when my friends tell me about their problems or successes and I don't know how to reply. I usually honestly feel good or bad for them, but I can't always relate. Should I keep asking them questions about it? or should I change the subject? or what?just listen to them, ask some questions, but none too intrusive or anything, just normal quesrions. Just say, "I'm sorry to hear that" when they tell you their woes and, "That's great" when they tell you their joys. » Ecological destruction and collapse of Roman and Maya civilizations?
what role did the ecological destruction play in the collapse of the roman and maya civilizaition? If you notice all of the great ancient ruins are located in arid or desert regions. If a drought occurs, especially in an agricultural society the people will starve unless they pack it in and relocate. Many ancient sites were built around the time of the end of the last ice age where regions that are deserts now were once lush with an ample variety of flora and fauna. With glacial retreat, the water became more scarce and rivers, streams, even lakes dried up. The aquifers helped some groups hold out with the cisterns in their fortresses but that resource only held out so long. Basically in ancient or primitive societies they relied on en...... - 2010-02-07

Excuse me for being unfamiliarized with MySQL. My webhost allows me to have unlimited tables and fields in my MySQL databse, but I only get one actual database. Sorry I couldn't phrase my question any better....AS long as the other table names don't conflict with vBulletin you can have as many tables as you want in the database. » What are the symptoms of HIV?
Some people who contract HIV experience very strong symptoms, but others experience none at all. Those who do have symptoms generally experience fever, fatigue, and, often, rash. Other common symptoms can include headache, swollen lymph nodes, and sore throat. These symptoms can occur within days or weeks of the initial exposure to the virus during a period called primary or acute HIV infection. The first symptoms of HIV infection can resemble symptoms of common cold or flu viruses. The symptoms of early infection can also be similar to the symptoms of other sexually transmitted diseases and other infections such as "mono" or hepatitis, which are much more commonly and more easily transmitted. » If mankind is a purely biological being how can mankind imagine something that has no basis in reality ie God?
i'm not talking about any one specific God...i talking about the term God in a generic sense...the supreme or ultimate reality...If you claim that something that can be conceptualized must be real then unicorns, mermaids, bogeymen, pixies and all the other creatures born of our imaginations must be real too. Just as all these mythological creatures have some basis in reality, so do gods. However just as that does not make any of those creatures real, nor does it make any god real.Well if you think about why gods were imagined, to explain the unexplained, then it's really not that amazing. In the late 1800's (about 1875-1900) there was a china store in NYC named Wilhelm & Graef. However, I am interested in finding information specifically on the store and its owners (one of which is related to me). Because I am writing a story, and I need an adjective to describe the tree. I just think it needs another word there. discarding the glad rags of summer defoliating Deciduous plants drop their leaves by abscission before winter, while evergreen plants continuously abscise their leaves. Abscission means leaf loss.well lets see i would say fall or winter cuz datz when the leaves start falling off the trees really. or if dis isnt the answer your looking for just go to ask.com and ask your question there. leaf senescence. the senescent tree...... - 2010-02-07

» FTP bug
I've noticed a bug when trying to upload files from one XBox to another using XBMC: If there is a "#" in the filename, the filename ends with a space " ", and probably under many other conditions, a FTP transfer fails. File transfers work fine from XBMC Filezilla standalone on Linux. I've also noticed this in the XBMC for Linux version. I'm sure this is just a parsing bug somewhere, but I'm not sure where to look or how to find the code at fault. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.noticed in the xbmc for linux version? good job, as there's no ftp server there ;) in any case, enable the fatx limiter and it should work on xbox. if not its all about libfileZillaThanks for the quick response; I will try ...... - 2010-02-07

the recommended tire pressure should be on the inside of the drivers door. (the inside edge where the latch is)Do not go by what the tires says on the sidewall. That is the maxium tire pressure for the tire. That pressure was not recommended for the car and could cause the tires to wear abnormally and create a rough ride.

Why weren't you given one when you applied for the insurance? You would have to call your insurance and stand for hours while pulled over by a cop. Get the paper then drive. You shouldn't.

If the angelfish should someday pair off and start laying eggs, the sponges over the intake should help to keep the babies from getting sucked into the filter pump. 600 liters per hour is only about 240 gallons per hour whic...... - 2010-02-07

» What do the various Nikkor letters mean?
Help a newbie here....I understand some of the designations such as AF, VR, etc. but what do all of the designations such as G, D, I, ED, IF, S mean on the Nikkor lenses? Please see below :) E - Bargain priced lenses that have a slightly lower build quality than standard Nikkors. D - Lens is capable of communicating focus distance to the camera - this assists with 3D matrix metering and flash photography. G - Lenses with no aperture ring - must be set by te camera. » Is the pain in your muscles when you exercise caused by lactic acid fermentation or micro tears?
My teacher says its micro tears in your muscles, but the book says it's lactic acid. So which is it?They're both correct. Lactic acid buildup accounts for soreness lasting around a day or so. Most textbooks don't specify any length of time that the soreness lasts due to lactic acid. Recent research indicates that persistent soreness is due to small tears in muscle fibers. Congrats to your teacher for keeping up with recent findings.i think its lactic acid.lactic acid is produced when anaerobic respiration is carried out.the oxygen in your body is not enough when you exercise.anaerobic respiration is carried out and lactic acid is one of the product that causes the pain.its lactic acid...... - 2010-02-07
» What book really haunted you that you still think about years after you first read it?
For me "We Need to Talk About Kevin" will always stay with me. I found it really disturbing, but oh so good at the same time. I dont think I would ever re-read it however (I am a big re-reader with all my fave books!).I too have only just read "Perks of Being a Wallflower" - so I will need to see if it haunts me in years to come. I would say "Lord of the Flies" - that book is such a cruel reminder of the rampant savagery humans have lurking under the surface, without the confines of society to bind them.Orwell's "1984" At the very end the protagonist is faced with a threat of torture so terrible, that he betrays his loved one. The nature of the torture is unimportant (in the book it was the threat of an appliance with two rabied...... - 2010-02-07
» Making fresh tomato sauce?
Hi, Does anybody know about making a good tomato sauce? I just cut up a bunch of fresh tomatoes and put them on a low boil. It looks like they're simmering into sauce but should I add anything? I'm planning to add herbs but is there something else I should do?If you don't add herbs you then can add them or not when you use the sauce to cook with. Boil them and then mash them. If you want a smooth sauce you might want to strain it. A food processor may work too. Lumpy sauce will be if you just mash them while you cook them. If you want spaghetti sauce then yes add herbs or italian seasonings, some garlic, some onion, salt and pepper. If you can them in jars you will want to add some vinegar or lemon juice.. li...... - 2010-02-07

» Which place in the world is most Racist to blacks: Eastern Europe or Latino street?
Yes some Latinos hate black people and I do not know why. Even in my skool. It's private but they seem to hate me. The Latinos that hate me are the tanned skinned Colomians and Equadorian, the Brazilian are good guys.I agree Latino streetIf you went to Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. then you'd be more of a novelty than anything else... not too many black people around there, so even if people have negative stereotypes they'd be fascinated by you. My best friend is black and fascinated with Russia; he took Russian in high school and even went over there, and he said that people treated him better than he could possibly imagine. He's also wicked tall (6'8), so they were basically in awe of him. If he walked d......

It varies depending who's your Internet Provider. The best is to check your ISP website to see price differences. I pay under $10.00 a month and that's not even the lowest they have.Just pick a website with unlimited hosting. http://www.hosttell.com...... - 2010-02-07
» Anybody know the tire pressure that is recommend for my pontiac G6 2007 All my tires are at different pressure?
the recommended tire pressure should be on the inside of the drivers door. (the inside edge where the latch is)Do not go by what the tires says on the sidewall. That is the maxium tire pressure for the tire. That pressure was not recommended for the car and could cause the tires to wear abnormally and create a rough ride. The recommended tire pressures for your car are on the drivers side front or rear door jam. It has pressure listed for the front, rear and spare. If you can't find it I know for a fact that the pressures front and rear recommend tire pressure is 30 psi.Recommended pressures are on a sticker on the driver side door.
